A weed is but an unloved flower. - Ella Wheeler Wilcox

Dandelion with Bee

But, these weeds feed the bees…very important in the spring.

Watch this short video on bees collecting pollen on a maple tree just outside the store. In the background of this video, you'll hear children's voices. We need the "weeds" and the bees to have a healthy world for our children to live in.

The Recipe Box

This is my favorite meatloaf recipe. It's different, easy to make and good warmed-up because it has tomato sauce in it. (Any meat dish with tomatoes in some form doesn't get that "warmed-up beefy" taste.)

meatloaf with cheese

Striped Meatloaf

1 lb Harvest Haven ground beef
2/3 cup tomato sauce or barbecue sauce
1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
2/3 cup Harvest Haven onion, finely chopped
1 - 2 cloves Harvest Haven garlic, minced
1 tsp salt
1 tsp oregano
1/2 tsp dried basil
1/4 tsp black pepper
2 Harvest Haven eggs, beaten
Mozzarella cheese, thinly sliced or grated

Combine all ingredients except cheese; mix well.

Spread one-third of mixture in loaf pan and top with a thin layer of cheese.
Continue layers, ending with meat mixture.

Bake at 350°F for 1 hour or until done and nicely browned.

Serves 5 – 6.

Down on the Farm

James Lost His Legs

James Lost His Legs!

Now, what do we have here?

Yikes! Are we trying to grow more farmers? It is hard to get good help these days, but growing our own?

After the last video with these two demonstrating fencing techniques, I'm not sure we can handle more.

The story goes that Martin and James really were working on fence to keep our livestock in the pasture, when they found a huge hole made by water leaking underground from the irrigation pipe. Both the leak and fence were repaired and the guys had some fun with us.
