Down on the Farm

sheep 5 lq

Makes you wonder what she's whispering into her lamb's ear...

The barn surveillance of the ewes and lambs is a treasure trove of interesting events. Because we are able to watch the sheep without being present, we see activities that would not be observed otherwise.

The other night, Simon our Australian "eyes on the ewes," saw a couple of tender moments. A little lamb that had just been born was having a hard time finding his way to his mom's teat. He just kept missing the right spot. So, Mom gently took his tail in her mouth and dragged him over to her udder. Bingo! Success.

Another ewe was eagerly eating her grain, which is their favorite snack, when her baby wanted some milk. But, the little guy couldn't reach the udder with the mom standing at her feeder. Despite being hungry, this mom stepped away from the feeder to let her baby suck. (I'm sure a few of us moms can relate to this.)
